About the competition

Lightbulb is the flagship business idea and pitch competititon at the University of Aberdeen. The competition is a collaboration between ABVenture Zone, University of Aberdeen and Santander Universitites.The rational behind the competiton is to provide an outlet for any student who wishes to become entrepreneur for a day.

The format of Lightbulb is unique in the sense that there is no pre-registration process. The contestant are simply asked to show up on the day and register, work on their ideas for a few hours and later pitch it in front of a jury, consiting of industry experts and/or experencied staff from Research & Innovation.

Running for two consecutive years, Lightbulb has seen a yearly increase in the numbers of contestants entering the competition. 

The 2018 version of Lightbulb ran over a period of three consecutive weeks, with an opening round o the first week, followed by a semifinal and final. The total prizepool for this year was £850.

Additional partners that lended their support and expertise to make Lightbulb happen were, Scottish Insitute for Enterprise, Elevator UK and Converge Challange.
